Edwardian Cooking From Downton Abbey: Orange Glazed Beef Brisket

The slow cooker is a cooker like most other thought this permits the food item in order to cook over a longer time frame but more than low temperature setting. You can find many different food products that may become cooked using the slow cooker yet one of these is beef stews. As a result of the nature of meat in general this indicates the fact that you can find never-ending ways and quality recipes you can prepare the meat. One with the recipes of slow cooker beef stew is provided below.

I remember the first time I had the pleasure of eating cooking beef brisket. It was at this fabulous little Barbecue Restaurant in Croton-On-Hudson, NY called Memphis Maes.

There are many types of BBQ sauces. You can buy BBQ sauces from stores or you can even make your own Barbecue sauce. There are many different recipes you can follow and I am going to tell you about one of my favorites. Barbecue sauce is usually sweet and thick and it tastes delicious with tender meat. My favorite is the Texas style BBQ sauce. This sauce takes ten minutes to prepare and only twenty minutes to cook, you just have to but water, ketchup, cider vinegar, butter, onion, Worcestershire sauce and some celery. Mix it up and cook for twenty minutes.

Cut the peeled apples into quarter and combine in a crockpot or slow cooking brisket with the cider. Place lid on cooker and cook apples on low for 10 hours. Add the spices and the sugar, mixing together well. Leave the lid off and cook on high for approximately 3 hours until thickened; stir occasionally. Spoon the hot mixture into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/2-inch of space at the top. Seal with two piece lids. Once opened, or any jars that did not seal, should be refrigerated.

When I say this book was complete what I mean is that it not only has 53 recipes it also has an introduction section that explains the ins and outs of a crock pot, commonly known as a slow cooker. It also contains a complete list of items to always have in your pantry so you can make a soup recipe any time. I found this very useful.

Get up before everyone else. I admit this is the hardest one for beef brisket chili, but if you do wake up first you can get your first cup of coffee or juice in peace, take a shower and some mornings even get dressed all by yourself.

At the first sips the wine tasted of lemon. It had moderate acidity and was fairly short. Its first pairing was with slow cooking beef ribs accompanied by sliced potatoes and a tomato, onion, lime, cilantro and green pepper salsa that was more spicy than I would have preferred. The acidity was fine for the meat and potatoes and there was a little bit of lemon. The wine and the meal didn't really gel - I don't blame the wine for not succeeding in a non-traditional pairing. Dessert was orange-flavored fruit candy; things worked better. The dominant taste was almonds and there was some honey as well.

With a sigh of relief, we took our drinks and trays with silverware to a darkened dining room and picked a heavy wood table tucked into the corner of the restaurant and waited for our first taste of barbecue to wash away the bad taste that had been left in our mouth by the semi-rude treatment at the counter. We waited. And we waited. A long time. But Kansas City barbecue is world famous, and Gates is some of the best, so it would all be worth it, right? Wrong.

Though this article has dealt with braising and stewing in the main, a crockpot can be a very versatile cooking tool. You can create soups, roasts and even cakes and desserts in a crockpot as long as you have the basic recipe. Crockpots are also cheap to buy and may well represent one of the best investments you can make for your kitchen.
